Rachel is a contemporary landscape artist based in London. She spends much of her spare time in Suffolk, where she gets much of her inspiration. The artist is drawn to the enchanting coastal region with its quaint rural villages and bleak beautiful marshes and heaths. It is famous as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Rachel Arif is particularly drawn to the coastal towns and villages of Aldeburgh, Southwold, Thorpness and Walberswick.
Rachel's work is abstract and loosely painted, highly textured, atmospheric, magnetic, and weather-filled. The land and weather in the U.K has moulded its inhabitants. They are emotive and powerful forces that are part of each of us. Rachel Arif tries to capture that intense intrinsic emotion.
Rachel was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, where she developed a deep appreciation for drawing and painting from a young age. She studied Art, but it wasn't until her young children began school that the artist took up the discipline with any seriousness.
Quick sketches gave way to more serious works and Arif found herself receiving commissions and selling works. Her subject matter is often the Suffolk coast.
