SUE FITZGERALD

Sue Fitzgerald is one of the country’s greatest colourists. She has been painting and exhibiting her work in solo and group shows abroad, in the UK and particularly in London at the Catto Gallery in Hampstead, for well over thirty years. Wherever she shows her work, her paintings fill the gallery with glowing colour and light, they literally stop the traffic when spied in the gallery window! People love to have her paintings on their walls, they transform that dining room or that prized position above the fireplace into a vivid, exciting space.

Sue’s paintings have a narrative. We could select at random…‘ Earl Grey: Lake Annecy’, for example. Sue has sipped her Earl Grey tea by Lake Annecy in France. She has absorbed the ambience, noted the reflections in the lake and the ever changing shapes of the distant mountains, as new places are discovered by the penetrating light of the Summer sun. In another example ‘ Emerald Hill’ Sue was thrilled to encounter this unspoilt area of Singapore which she had known when she had lived there many years ago. She was completing a watercolour sketch of the original houses whilst perched on a roadside bollard, when a kindly resident came out with a chair and pot of Jasmine tea. These memorable occasions  are all part of the rich texture of Sue’s work carefully woven into a sumptuous fabric.
Enjoy the paintings on Sue’s website. There is a continuous array of of colourful and delightful ‘stories’.
