Dorothy Dent grew up on a farm and her work today remains greatly influenced by the gardens, allotments and open spaces of her childhood days in County Durham.
She studied Fine Art at Teesside College of Art (foundation) and Bath Academy of Art (BA Hons). She returned North to teach at Cleveland College of Art & Design and then at QESFC where she was Foundation Studies Course Leader. During this time she painted and received Commissions and was invited to become involved with the Art into Hospitals project, including the creation of two Murals for the Memorial Hospital Co. Durham.
Dorothy moved south in 1991 and has painted full time since then. Dorothy Dent's paintings have been on display in galleries in the north and South of England including: The Walker Galleries Ltd. (Harrogate), Castlegate House Gallery (Cumbria), The Lund Gallery (York), Montage Gallery (North Yorkshire), Miles Meehan Gallery (Durham), Cleveland Gallery (Co.Cleveland), Alresford Gallery (Hampshire), Wykeham Gallery (Stockbridge), Richmond Gallery (Yorkshire), Rowley Gallery Contemporary Arts (London& Winchester), Churzee Gallery (Wimbledon), Bankside Gallery (RWS open), Royal Academy (Summer Exhibition), NEAC Open 1991-2010, Mall Gallery (London).
