Overview
Born in Yorkshire in 1955, Wren Hughes studied sculpture in the studios of Sally Arnup and the late John Skeaping RA from 1972-74 before going on to study with James Butler RA at the City and Guilds of London Art School from 1974-77, gaining a Fine Art Diploma in Sculpture.
She aims to explore the creative potential held within the tension of opposites; inner and outer, emptiness and form, joy and pain. She sees her work as seeking to enter a place of inner stillness; moving from the inside out and allowing creative energy to flow unimpeded.
Wren has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally in Washington, New York, Paris and the Channel Islands. In London she has exhibited extensively including at The Royal Academy. Her work is in many private and public collections including those at Southwark Cathedral and that of the late Sir Roger de Grey, a former President of the Royal Academy.
